In the 10 years of Go Negosyo, I am proud to say that our advocacy has consistently shown promise in its vision to make the country an entrepreneurial nation. Aside from our summits, caravans, negosyo seminars, and multi-media campaigns, providing practical entrepreneurship education to the underprivileged Filipinos, we’ve also published a number of books with different concepts that aim to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to start their own business ventures.
The most recent book we published was the Go Negosyo: 50 Entrepreneurs of Passion which we have launched just November last year. It was the ninth book in our nine-year journey. This book relates how passion, big dreams and good ideas translated into great businesses. It features the stories that we hope will encourage countless Filipinos to take the path of the entrepreneur.
Our other books include the stories of celebrity entrepreneurs (Go Negosyo: 50 Inspiring Stories of Entrepreneurs– Celebrity Edition), women entrepreneurs (Go Negosyo: 55 Inspiring Stories of Women Entrepreneurs), young entrepreneurs (Go Negosyo: 50 Inspiring Stories of Young Entrepreneurs), agri-entrepreneurs (Go Negosyo: 50 Inspiring Stories of Agri-Entrepreneurs) , and stories of small entrepreneurs with businesses that have helped them survive poverty (Go Negosyo: Inspiring Stories of Small Entrepreneurs).
Apart from unfolding inspiring entrepreneurial stories of many local and well-known entrepreneurs, we also have books that provide tried-and-tested formulas in starting, sustaining and succeeding in business such as the “Go Negosyo: 21 Steps on How to Start Your Own Business”, with a simplified Tagalog translated version: “21 Hakbang sa Pagsisimula ng Sarili Mong Negosyo.’ These two books were co-written by Angelpreneurs Dean Pax Lapid and Ping Sotto.
Since all parents dream of raising their children to be successful, we also produced another common favourite among parents, the “8 Simple Secrets to Raising Entrepreneurial Kids” written by another Angelpreneur, Mary Joy Abaquin. This book aims to share with parents the secret in making their kids successful, by being smarter about money.
But among all these, my personal favourite has always been the first book of Go Negosyo published in 2006 entitled “GO NEGOSYO: Joey Concepcion’s 50 Inspiring Entrepreneurial Stories,” which featured stories of 50 accomplished entrepreneurs who founded or managed some of the most well-known and successful businesses in the country.
Since its first publication, it topped the best-selling list of many bookstores. I am proud to say that this book has inspired many aspiring entrepreneurs. One of them is Joel Yala of ChocoVron who witnessed the grand book launch of this book in Megamall. To him, this has started his determination to continue the business plan he had in mind for years. And today, he is now a successful business owner producing export-quality polvoron delicacies to different countries.
On July 28, we will celebrate our 10th anniversary—a perfect time to launch our 10th book. Since 2015 is all about looking back at the 10 wonderful years of Go Negosyo, it is just fitting to publish a book that will remind us of our humble beginnings, yet at the same time show the world our willingness to take on the challenges the future has in store.
This book, “Go Negosyo: Joey Concepcion’s 50 Inspiring Entrepreneurial Stories (Special 10th Year Anniversary Edition) is a reinvention of our first book but we added a number of new champion entrepreneurs who have been making waves in the business industry in the past decade. With the foreword written by entrepreneur icon John Gokongwei Jr., and entrepreneurial lessons from the “Entrep Guru” and angelpreneur Andy Ferreria, the book is certainly special, in every sense of the word.
We have retained stories of entrepreneurs Jay Aldeguer, Araneta Family, Dado Banatao, Vicky Belo, Tony Tan Caktiong, Joselito Campos Jr., Ben Chan, Boni Comandante, Raul Concepcion, Gaita Fores, Julie Gandionco, Tony Gloria, John Gokongwei Jr., Felipe Gozon, Joey Gurango, Roland Hortaleza, Pacita Juan, Johnlu Koa, Henry Lim Bon Liong, Lopez Family, Guillermo Luchangco, Manny Pangilinan, Cecilio Pedro, Ronald Pineda, Marixi Prieto, Socorro Ramos, Les and Ricky Reyes, Rodrigo Rivera Sr., Henry Sy, Vivienne Tan, Tantoco Family, William Torres, Orlando Vea, Myla Villanueva, Manny Villar, Alfredo Yao, and Zobel de Ayala Family.
We have added equally inspiring stories of entrepreneurship advocate Sen. Bam Aquino, JJ Atencio (8990 Holdings Inc.), Laura Bertotto (VMV Hypoallergenics), Carlos Chan (Liwayway Marketing Corp.), Renen De Guia (Ovation Productions), Philippe Lhuillier (PJ Lhuillier Group), Nix Nolledo (Xurpas), William Sy (Primer Group), Tommanny Tan (FERN Inc.), Arthur Tugade (Perry’s Group), Antonio Tuviera (TAPE Inc.), and Glenn Yu (SEAOIL).
Looking at these books, I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic. Each of these books represents a year of Go Negosyo. Go Negosyo for me is like a business too, although I do not get any profit from it, it gives more than enough fulfillment seeing and hearing from the people whom we have inspired. And like any business, we also started small. We’ve been through several challenges and yet we remain standing over the years.
